Cops saw video of deadly incident with Kelly Thomas before writing reports

"Fullerton's acting police chief acknowledged Thursday that the department had allowed police officers involved in a deadly encounter with a homeless man to watch a video that captures the incident before writing their reports about it.

Acting Chief Kevin Hamilton said supervisors allowed the review so that the officers would have a chance to refresh their memory and write an accurate account of the incident involving Kelly Thomas.

But the practice is at odds with the way many other police departments deal with serious use-of-force cases. The LAPD's former inspector general, Jeffrey Eglash, said that allowing police to look at video before giving evidence is a "bad practice.""

Man shot, killed by officers on Coronado bridge

"SAN DIEGO — A 54-year-old man who was threatening to commit suicide by jumping off the San Diego-Coronado Bay Bridge was shot and killed Sunday morning by California Highway Patrol officers after he motioned as if to remove a gun from his pocket, San Diego police said.

At 1:29 a.m., San Diego police officers and CHP officers responded to reports of a man standing in westbound traffic lanes of the bridge, homicide Lt. Ernie Herbert said. As the officers negotiated with the man, he told them he had a gun and threatened to shoot them if they tried to stop him, Herbert said."

Teen struck by Ohio campus officer's stun gun dies

"CINCINNATI (AP) — Police say an 18-year-old attending summer classes at the University of Cincinnati was struck by a campus officer's stun gun and died of cardiac arrest.

Officers received a 911 call about an assault at Turner Hall early Saturday. The university's assistant police chief, Jeff Corcoran, tells The Cincinnati Enquirer (http://bit.ly/q3FIuz ) that the teenage boy approached officers in the dorm hallway, appearing agitated and angry.

Corcoran says officers ordered the teen to back off, but he refused. He was then hit once by an officer's stun gun.

Afterward, the teen appeared incoherent. He went into cardiac arrest after paramedics arrived and was pronounced dead at University Hospital."
